Theatre Flamenco
Founded in 1966 by Adela Clara, Theatre Flamenco was the first American resident dance company to stage full production of Spanish dance in the United States. The only dance company in San Francisco that is older than Theatre Flamenco is the San Francisco Ballet. Forty-two years is a long time for a nonballet company to exist, but the combination of an on-going legacy of dedicated dancers who love and respect Spanish dance, plus the direction and choreography of Miquel Santos, has sustained Theatre Flameno.
Featured among the five dancers will be Carola Zertuche, who began her dance career in Mexico City's Tablao Meson de Triana. Her studies have led her to many renowned. She has been featured as a soloist in Pilar Rioja's company "Reflejo Español" and danced with the Maria Elena Anaya Company under the artistic direction of Manolo Vargas and with other companies. Her dance has been showcased in such festivals as the Ethnic Dance Festival in San Francisco, the Santa Barbara Flamenco Festival and the Monterrey Mexico Flamenco Festival.
